Prior to establishing Incidental, David Gunn was the founding director of the Folk Songs Project, a new media collective that developed a range of websites that used interactive maps to allow users to manipulate and compose music based upon site-specific recordings in a range of locations around the world.

The websites of the Folk Songs Project were commissioned by The Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Futuresonic Festival & Manchester International Festival, Culturgest, Fundacao Serralves, Teatro Circo, Teatro Municipal de Guarda and CCCC.
Participants in the The Folk Songs Project creative team included: Guillermo E Brown, Alastair Dant, Tom Davis, Victor Gama, David Gunn and William Parker.
