Acrux Variations is a live performance project featuring David Gunn (laptop) and Luso-Angolan musician and instrument builder Victor Gama. During the show Gama plays the Acrux, a unique instrument of his own design, whilst Gunn (starting the performance without any pre-recorded samples or sounds) gradually gathers, remodulates and transforms the sounds of the Acrux in real time.

“… Gama is joined on laptop by digital artist and sometime collaborator David Gunn … Seated, he quickly loops some of the acrux’s sounds, building up a mesh of tones. Ghostly clangings and delicate marimba-like patterns ensue while Gunn and Gama feed excerpts back and forth, each of modulating, refining and transforming what came before …”
